Event Details

3.8 million trees are cut down annually to supply timber for the disposable chopstick industry. This has become an international problem – deforestation is destroying critical habitats especially in regards to salamanders. Disposable chopsticks cost about $0.02 per pair for restaurants and last approximately 1-2 meals. Comparatively, reusable chopsticks cost restaurants $1.17 per pair and last approximately 130 meals! Come visit our AAZK table in the Reptile House this Saturday, May 6th from 12-3pm to learn more about local salamanders, The Foundation for the Conservation of Salamanders (FCSal), and purchase your own pair of reusable chopsticks! To learn more about how you can help local salamander species visit the FCSal website at fcsal.org.
