The Essex County Turtle Back Zoo is temporarily closing to the public effective March 14, 2020 following the lead and directive of our state health and government officials as a measure to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus in our community. Opening date will be determined at a later time.
All programming and events are currently canceled or rescheduled. If you have signed up for an event or booked a trip/party during that time, someone from our staff will be reaching out to you shortly.
We rely on the guidance of our Essex County Health Department, the New Jersey State Department of Health, the CDC, WHO, and other public health authorities. Our policies will evolve as public-health experts understand more about the virus. TBZ’s top priority is the health and safety of our employees and our guests. We will update our plans as the situation develops.
Our animals are doing well and we continue to provide them with professional care. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not received reports of any wildlife or animals in human care becoming sick with COVID-19.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we adjust accordingly to the changing situation and look out for our people and our animals.
