Turtle Back Zoo is an amazing classroom! Our Out of School at the Zoo: Zoo Club offers students an opportunity to participate in animal and conservation themed programs and projects that facilitate scientific literacy and life-long environmental stewardship. Available to students in grades 1 through 5. The program includes a visit into the Zoo or South Mountain Reservation as weather permits and a live animal presentation.
Session 5: Animal Enrichment – Did you know that there is much more to animal health than feeding and cleaning? Not only do zoo staff prepare healthy and varied diets, clean and maintain exhibits, but we also provide vital mental, physical, and emotional stimulation to the animals in our care. Today the zoo club will learn about animal enrichment and how it helps maintain optimal health and well being of our animal ambassadors. This is the last meeting of the Afterschool Zoo Club for the fall; program will resume in Spring 2020.
Drop-off is at the Berson Education Center as early as 3pm, but no later than 3:45pm (we will be leaving the building after that). Pick-up time is between 6pm and 6:30pm; late pick-ups after 6:30pm will incur a fee of $10 for every 15 minutes late. Your child can come straight from school – we have a classroom where they can safely leave school gear while out in the Zoo or Reservation. We will provide a snack of fresh fruit and veggies, but you may provide other snacks for your child as needed; refrain from including common allergenic foods such as tree nuts, etc. Please make sure that your child has a refillable water bottle and is comfortably dressed to spend time outside. We will go outside, rain or shine or snow, unless there is thunder or lightening.
